name: kwon hyuk birthdate: November 11th 1996 h/w: 177cm / 57kg mbti: x day job: barista / part-time student@K’ARTS+Fine Arts Major intern(apprentice) under Kim Seongtae in Icheon (sometimes becomes a night job) night job : dj @ club marks: x, o likes: dislikes: | ten: 𝄞 will try every drink on the menu whenever he visits a new cafe “A latte is very different at every single shop.” He can hear his friend sigh through their laughter. They’re probably used to it by now, all his close friends must be, as he rails off his order for half the drinks on the menu. He never finishes all the drinks, but he feels the excessive need to try every one of them. It takes a real toll on his wallet, but it’s weirdly worth it to him, something that cheers him up when he’s having a tough day. It takes three trips between him and his friend to carry all the drinks to their chosen booth in the corner, his friend letting out one of those sigh-filled laughs (more sighing than laughter this time). Four different coffees, two specialty drinks, three iced drinks with some sort of fruit flavoring sit on their table. He finishes maybe a third of all the drinks (being generous to himself) and tugs gently at his friend’s sleeve to coax them into drinking the 2nd third so he doesn’t feel like it’s too wasted. He’d been just a little too ambitious today. 𝄞 always has some sort of dessert with each of his meals It goes all the way back to when he was a kid and he was allowed to have sugar for the first time in the form of sweet dduk on New Years. He gets some form of dessert after every meal since then and this is one routine he won’t break. The best dessert he’s ever had was during a family trip to France, freshly made Madelines dusted with powdered sugar in a tiny cafe with yellow lights and wine colored walls covered in gold filigree. 𝄞 he gets a little more energetic when he’s drunk, more affectionate & louder Louder really just means that he likes to yell. It’s shocking because he’s normally so quiet and relaxed, content to be chilling on the sidelines while a crowd forms around the center. When he’s drunk though, he’s touchy and noisy and sings nonstop (though he’s usually always humming). He yells loudly about the songs he’s recently discovered, or a cat he passed earlier in the day, why someone is his favorite person, and a bunch of gibberish to follow after he’s gone over his drink limit. And then he gets very sick and very hungry at the same time, which is an awful combination. 𝄞 an only child His parents get married when they’re 23. Lee Somi is exactly 4 months pregnant on the day they exchange vows. Their own parents radiate disappointment during the reception, but the wedded couple are too happy to let anything ruin their special day. Everyone is happy when he’s born, a son was exactly what they had all wanted, and that brings all of them together again. “You’re all we need.” Is something his mom had always said to him as he’d grown up and he believes it through all the warmth and love he receives from the both of his parents. They dote on him endlessly and healthily, always encouraging him to be independent and work hard for his dreams, opening doors when he needs the extra help. 𝄞 very very very sentimental Whenever he got sick, his dad brought him tea jars. Inside these jars are slices of lemons that had been scrubbed clean, all the seeds picked out, with an extra large dollop of honey melted in. Homemade yujacha. That never failed to make him feel like he was getting better faster. Even to this day, he thinks it’s the best thing his dad can make. Now he makes tea jars for his friends whenever they’re sick, packaged in empty jam jars with different fruits embossed all along the sides and silver metal lids. He slices his lemons thin and adds extra honey, just like his dad, because tastebuds seem to temporarily die during sickness. 𝄞 more talkative through text than in person (will send song recs constantly) [3:27 AM]: all i ate today were grapes The great thing about the internet is being able to reach a wide audience from the comfort of your home. The shitty thing about the internet is that people feel they can say whatever the hell they want and experience no consequence. There were definitely a higher number of hate comments flooding his music page when he had first started, which was around the end of his middle school life, but the positivity eventually grew after a few years of being involved in the online community of underground music under the alias of Dean (the name came from a movie he had watched with his parents on Family Saturday). It had also taken a few years for him to actually develop his own distinct style for music. He posts regularly, a few times a week, still under an alias and has had the chance to work anonymously with a couple other artists roaming around the world wide web. 𝄞 also writes a blog about his daily life 6/2/2014 12:39 AM - insert a shaky video of the night sky, it’s dark blue and the moon is just a teeny circle of light floating up in all the blueness- Today I spent ten hours in an old cd shop that I always pass by on the way to the grocery store. I don’t know why I had never gone in until today when I pass it nearly every day. The owner is a very old grandfather who still has insanely good hearing. He let me play every single cd that I picked out and no one came into the store all day. Apparently it’s the weekends that are busy, not surprising. What was surprising was the amount of foreign music on the shelves. Has anyone heard of Kanye West? Kidding 😂 I think every album ever released by him was on the lowest shelf of the store. “I know this purple one by heart.” That was the most surprising thing of the day. Anyway, I didn’t get groceries today. It was that dark by the time I finally left the store and all I wanted was soft serve ice cream. Good thing McDonalds stays open late. Good night everyone 🌙 tags: video, music comments(3) | leave comment 𝄞 plum blossoms His mom passes when he’s 17. It happens suddenly on an unusually cold day in late February and neither him or his father even suspect what’s about to happen that Saturday morning. Saturdays are family days, they make breakfast together (or his dad pours the juice and makes burnt coffee while his mom gives him tips on making the most important meal of the day) then spend the rest of the day lounging around the living room as each one of them work on their own personal projects. The windows were open because that Saturday, his mom thought it would be a good idea to teach his dad the right way to make pancakes (he burns them, as expected). He’s always suspected that she somehow knew what was about to happen that afternoon because of the way she moved around the kitchen, carefully scolding his dad when the pancakes were getting flipped too early or too late. After brunch, she had settled into a nap against his dad’s chest, the both of them sunk deep against the sofa, he had fallen asleep on the fluffy rug with their cat curled beside his head. A particularly cold breeze had woken him up enough to get up and shut the windows and he only just noticed the look on his dad’s face until he was finished. The next day is when his mom’s favorite plum tree finally blooms. 𝄞 60 minutes from Seoul to Icheon The bus costs about 9,400 won to go back and forth from Seongtae-sungsaengnim’s studio. His mom had introduced the potter to him when he was a child, when he’d only known the man as a close family friend who had a home that was full of ceramics with intricate floral designs. He’s the nice uncle (not really an uncle) that gave him a big handful of nurungji candies every time they visited and Hyuk would spend hours just watching the man work, all the candy gone by the time they had to go back home. It’s at his mom’s funeral when Seongtae offers the apprentice position to him and he’s been making the hour long bus trip ever since. |
